One of the Jewish people’s defining commandments is to transform our houses into identifiably Jewish homes, and we do this by affixing a mezuzah to the doorposts of our entryways. Schools are traditionally exempt from this mitzvah since the commandment only applies to places where one resides. Hillel Day School, however, is truly a second home for our students, faculty, and the Jewish community.
During the 2017-2018 school year, in honor of Hillel’s 60th Anniversary, we invited our community to join us in fulfilling this important and meaningful mitzvah by dedicating new mezuzot, created by our students, for the school. This unique program continues to enhance our school with the beauty and holiness of our Jewish tradition, while also supporting tuition assistance and other areas of the school.
We are fortunate to have mezuzot still available for dedication. Our mezuzah campaign offers the opportunity to dedicate a mezuzah in honor or memory of a loved one, or to celebrate a special occasion. Please review the list below if you are interested in dedicating a mezuzah. A personalized commemorative plaque by the doorpost accompanies each mezuzah dedication, to be viewed each day by current students and future generations to come.
