Student Leadership
At Hillel, we believe in empowering our students to step up, share their voices, and live out our school motto:
Be Respectful. Be Responsible. Be Kind. Be Yourself.
With the goal of developing tomorrow's changemakers, we offer the following programs designed to nurture leadership skills and allow our students to make a difference, both in school and beyond.
Leadership Opportunities
Buddy Program
At the start of the school year, 8th grade students are paired with a Pre-K "buddy" whom they visit throughout the year. The students play together and work on projects as a team, and their relationship gives older students the chance to become positive role models for their younger counterparts. As the year wraps up and 8th graders prepare to graduate, Pre-K students send their buddies off to high school with songs and cheers, a sweet dor l'dor moment.
Library Buddies
In 6th grade, students can elect to be library buddies for Pre-K students. The older buddies help younger students with selecting books and then read to them. Middle school students can also choose ECC helper as their elective, which allows them to spend time in an ECC class during the week.
Knesset
Student government, known at Hillel as Knesset, empowers students to become leaders, changemakers and contributors to their community. Made up of roughly 15 students from 4th-8th grade, Knesset members work together to act as the voice of the student body while modeling our school's values and building their own self-confidence.
Knesset's main objectives are to raise funds for Israel, spearhead programs to beautify Hillel and create initiatives that affect positive change, both inside and out of school. The group also focuses on No Place for Hate (NPFH), an organization for the ADL, so that Hillel can continue to be a NPFH school.
